Since Tammy Abraham's impressive season in 2019/20, the club's top Premier League scorers haven't exactly been the typical number nines. Instead, names like Jorginho, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, and Cole Palmer have topped the charts. And this is the part most people miss... Havertz, the only one on that list who played as a striker, wasn't even a natural in that position!
Now, enter Joao Pedro. Could he be the one to change the narrative? Chelsea legend John Terry certainly seems impressed. Terry admitted to being pleasantly surprised by Pedro's impact, stating, "He's been great so far." He also noted Pedro's impressive performances in training, adding, "I like the way he trains and his whole demeanor, and he's scoring goals, which I love."
Pedro's start has been promising, with four Premier League goals and three assists so far this season. But here's where it gets controversial... He recently went through an eight-game goal drought, leading to questions about his ability to lead the Chelsea attack. However, manager Enzo Maresca has emphasized that Pedro is a different type of striker, not comparable to the likes of Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, or Kylian Mbappe. His three assists, the highest in the team, showcase his all-around contribution.
