Norman Powell is Heating Up in Miami
The Miami Heat are on fire, currently holding a 7-4 record and ranking third in the Eastern Conference. They're playing at the league's fastest pace, making them a must-watch team.
Norman Powell is a key reason for their success. He's averaging 24.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Stepping up in place of the injured Tyler Herro, Powell is continuing a scoring streak that has elevated him among the league's elite.
Now 32 years old, Powell has increased his scoring average in each of the last three seasons. He's currently ranked 18th in the league in points per game, between Pascal Siakam and Zach LaVine, and could even be in the running for All-Star recognition.
Watch Powell in action – he's incredibly quick off the catch. He consistently gains an advantage with his decisiveness, capitalizing with his skills, whether from beyond the arc, in the lane, or at the rim.
While he might not have the explosive leaping ability of his Raptors days, he's more than made up for it with his craftiness and aggression. This style perfectly complements the Heat's uptempo play, as they seek to make it two straight wins over the Cleveland Cavaliers after their thrilling 140-138 overtime victory on Monday.
Powell credits head coach Erik Spoelstra for instilling focus and resilience in the team.

Welcome to a 12-Game Night in the NBA!
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder host Luka Dončić and the Lakers at 9:30 PM ET tonight on ESPN.
Two Western Conference powerhouses will headline our Wednesday night slate. The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, led by reigning Kia MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, will take on Luka Dončić and the Los Angeles Lakers at 9:30 PM ET on ESPN.
The Thunder have been dominating to start the season, rocketing to the top of the NBA with an 11-1 record. They're ranked fifth in offensive rating (119.4), first in defensive rating (105.4), and first in net rating (+14.0).
Last year, their net rating stood at +12.8—the best mark in NBA history.
And remember, they're still missing All-Star wing Jaylen Williams and defensive stalwart Luguentz Dort.
SGA's stats are eerily similar to last season's MVP run – 32.8 ppg, 5.2 reb, and 6.4 ast on 52% shooting vs. 32.7 ppg, 5.0 reb, and 6.4 ast on, yes, 52% shooting. There's no more consistent star in the NBA.
Center Chet Holmgren has taken a step forward this season, boosting his scoring and rebounding while making an impressive 73% of his two-point shots. Ajay Mitchell has stepped up, providing 17.0 ppg and high energy, compensating for some of J-Dub's offensive contributions. Former Laker and 2020 NBA Champion Alex Caruso is as tough on defense as ever, while Aaron Wiggins is a consistent two-way threat.
But the Lakers, with an 8-3 record, have the pieces to give them trouble.
Luka (37.1 ppg, 9.4 reb, 9.1 ast) has been an unparalleled offensive force for much of this season, building chemistry with potential All-Star Austin Reaves (30.3 ppg).
Rui Hachimura, Jake LaRavia, and Marcus Smart provide size and two-way potential, while Deandre Ayton is one of the few centers who might be more talented than Holmgren.
Here's the complete schedule for tonight:
- Milwaukee Bucks vs. Charlotte Hornets, 7 PM ET
- Chicago Bulls vs. Detroit Pistons, 7 PM ET
- Orlando Magic vs. New York Knicks, 7 PM ET, ESPN
- Memphis Grizzlies vs. Boston Celtics, 7:30 PM ET
